I know of one person who moved all her stuff out of her old place, and was unable to get hold of the new landlord to get the key to her new place—so make sure this doesn’t happen to you.

The day you arrive at a new place you have to fill out several forms, the most important of which is the condition report, which should be filled out as soon as you get there, preferably before your furniture starts going in. The real estate agent or landlord will fill out the condition report first, and then you have to go around and double- check that you agree with what they have listed and fill out your part of the report. Don’t rush it— just take your time.

Make sure that you keep a copy of this document—it is vital to getting your bond money back. One of the first things you need to check is that the services you organized have been connected. Plug your phone in and test the lights and power points.
